Variable-drive mechanical supercharger technology put to the test


Torotrak Group has verified the performance of its new V-Charge variable-drive mechanical supercharger in a series of tests. In comparison with the incumbent fixed-ratio positive-displacement supercharger on a 1.0-liter GTDI engine, V-Charge achieved improved brake specific fuel consumption, better transient performance and a maximum brake mean effective pressure of 31bar.

The company results shared the results of this development including simulation results using a GT-Power model and engine dynamometer testing, which was carried out at the University of Bath Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre.
