Mazda releases further details on Skyactiv-X

Japanese OEM Mazda has released further details of its groundbreaking Skyactiv-X engine.

Featuring the OEM’s sparkplug controlled compression ignition technology, the 2-liter four-cylinder promises fuel economy of 4.4l/100km, with CO emissions of 96g/km.

Combining the spark ignition of a gasoline engine with the compression ignition of a diesel, the Mazda unit promises to deliver the free-revving performance of a gasoline engine and the superior response of a diesel. The Skyactiv-X engine will have a maximum power output of 180PS and 224Nm of torque.

When applied to the new Mazda3, the Skyactiv-X will also be equipped with Mazda M Hybrid technology.

This 24V mild-hybrid system aims to minimize fuel consumption, increase fuel economy and lower emissions by recycling energy recovered during deceleration.
