The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of a team that develops and integrates ultra high-speed turbomachinery employing advanced compliant foil bearings. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional theoretical and hands-on skills over a broad range of mechanical engineering disciplines such as rotordynamics, material science, tribology, and/or aerodynamics. S/he has a proven background in driving projects from inception through prototype testing and delivery and takes ownership of assigned projects. Position requires candidate to interface with subject matter experts and work closely with esteemed customers. Preference given to applicants with depth across multiple disciplines.


Develop project plans, i.e. timelines, task breakouts, identify collaborators

Execute project tasks including: definition of specifications, developing models, overseeing all aspects of the design process, coordinating prototype development, designing test rigs and implementing instrumentation

Interpret and analyze test data; develop models and validation methodologies

Perform failure analysis if required

Monitor day-to-day progress against budget and forecasted schedule

Secure next phases of project funding

Deliver progress reports and presentations to stakeholders

Attend and support external meetings with clients, subcontractors and funding agencies

 Daily duties performed in an office setting with collaborative presence in laboratory and machine shop


 Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially collaboration and influencing skills

 Creative and innovative thinker

 Acute awareness of business objectives and personal role in achieving them

 Exercises independent judgement and professionally executes projects with little to no direction

 Builds productive internal and external working relationships


 Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

 Broad knowledge of general engineering concepts, principles, and theories; comfortable discussing any aspect of the standard mechanical engineering curriculum

 Working knowledge of engineering design methodologies, CAD/FEM software

 Must be U.S. Citizen or have permanent residency at time of hire.


 Demonstrated experience in proposal writing

 Desire to publish in peer reviewed journals

 Strong and compelling presenter
