McLaren details the 4.0-liter V8 Senna

Ahead of it public debut at the Geneva International Motor Show next month, McLaren has released further information on the Senna. Fitted with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 – McLaren’s most powerful IC engine ever produced for a road car – the limited release hypercar will develop 800ps and 800Nm.

Ford Ranger returns to the USA with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine

Fitted with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine taken from the Focus RS, the 2019 Ford Ranger marks the OEM’s return to America’s mid-size truck segment. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, Ford promises torque comparable to a V6 and the efficiency of a four-cylinder.

BorgWarner develops P2 HEV module

As OEMs continue to produce cleaner and more efficient cars, BorgWarner has designed an all-new P2 module for hybrid electric vehicles.

The technology is designed to facilitate pure electric driving as well as hybrid functionalities such as stop/start, regenerative braking and supplemental electric propulsion.

“Trends like autonomous driving, connected cars, ridesharing and efficiency are driving change in the automotive industry, and P2 hybrids are receiving a great deal of attention,” said James Verrier, CEO at BorgWarner.

Placed between the IC engine and the transmission, the company’s P2 modules are capable of decoupling the engine for limited pure electric driving. To address the variation of hybrid applications, BorgWarner developed two design variants: on-axis and off-axis.

In the former, the electric motor is located directly on the main axis enabling easy integration. This configuration allows several clutch options, offers high power density and is designed to increase fuel efficiency as well as performance.

The off-axis configuration places the electric motor parallel to the main axis for a compact axial package minimizing [the] changes necessary to implement with existing engines and transmissions. Torque is transferred via chain. This design offers compatibility with manual, automatic and dual-clutch transmissions.
