Audi unveils A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept at Wörthersee

Audi will show off the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept at this year’s Wörthersee meet, held in Reifnitz in Germany from May 28-31. The concept car drops a 2.5-liter five-cylinder TFSI engine into Audi’s S3 saloon, resulting in 525ps and 600Nm of torque.

“The Audi A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept shows our car and tuning fans at the Wörthersee just how much sporty potential there is in the A3 family and in our top-of-the-line engines, such as the 2.5 TFSI,” says Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the board of management for technical development. “We have pushed the limits in every respect with this show car: power, dynamics, sound and design.”

The 2.5-liter five-cylinder TFSI powertrain has a well-established pedigree – its turbocharged performance in the RS Q3, among other models, has seen it win International Engine of the Year for four years in a row. Housed in the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept, the 2,480cc unit boasts 211ps per liter, while a curb weight of 1,527kg yields a power-to-weight ratio of 343.8ps per ton. The 600Nm of torque is available between 2,300 and 6,000rpm, and pushes the show car from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 309km/h. A number of modifications make such figures possible – not least a tweaked intercooler and a large turbocharger with up to 1.5 bar of relative boost pressure. The characteristic soundtrack of the engine is also reinforced in the show car by an intake and exhaust system set up for maximum throughput.

The Wörthersee meeting, which has been held every year since 1981, is the largest Volkswagen and Audi car show in Europe. The A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept will appear alongside the 420ps Audi TT Quattro Sport Concept and an array of other models.
