Porsche to produce 50,000+ Macans annually in expanded Leipzig plant

Porsche has officially opened its heavily expanded plant in Leipzig, Germany, following two years of development, and announced that it can now accommodate production of more than 50,000 Porsche Macans annually.
Porsche’s fifth model line, the new Macan S is powered by a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 340hp and can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5 seconds, while the 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 in the Macan Turbo produces 400hp and makes the car sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds.
Matthias Müller, chairman of the executive board of Porsche, said: The fact that Porsche has invested €500m [US$676m] in the Leipzig plant in addition to the original €250m [US$339m], thus creating 1,500 new jobs, makes one thing clear: We are totally convinced in the qualities of this location and that the Macan will be a marketing success.”
The plant, which was designed to meet stringent environmental criteria, also includes a new body shop and ultra-modern paint shop.
