Getrag and Jiangling mark production of first DCT in China

Getrag and joint venture partner Jiangling Motors have marked the start of dual clutch transmission production in China together with customer Qoros.
With the first 6DCT250 off the production line, Getrag (Jiangxi) Transmission successfully completed the last milestone before start of serial production in November. The modern dual clutch transmission will be applied first in the upcoming Qoros 3.
“We have come a long way since we started transmission production in China,” said Gordon Spaulding, CEO of Getrag Asia Pacific and Getrag (Jiangxi) Transmission. “Today we produced our first modern dual clutch transmission in China for China.”
Getrag (Jiangxi) Transmission has invested around US$85 million in the Nanchang plant, while about US$322 million will be added until 2022, when about 1,200 employees will work on the 133,340sqm site. By then the plant’s annual capacity will have risen to 800,000 transmissions per year. ”Although dual clutch transmission technology is sophisticated and cost-intensive, I am sure that we will be successful with our first automatic transmission,” says Wang Xigao, chairman of the board of Jiangling and vice chairman of GJT.
