Getrag, a leading independent system supplier for passenger car and light commercial vehicle transmissions, and joint venture partner Dongfeng Motor Group, the second largest passenger car manufacturer in China, have began construction of a new dual clutch transmission plant in China with a ground-breaking ceremony earlier this week.
Starting in 2016, the facility in Wuhan will produce modern 6DCT150 dual clutch transmissions for the Asian compact car market. By 2015 the 48,000sqm construction area in Wuhan will consist of an office and R&D center in addition to the manufacturing facility itself.
“As early as in Q4 2014 the first manufacturing equipment will be installed in the new plant in order to execute production trials,” said Stéphane Duminy, executive vice president of the joint venture Dongfeng Getrag Transmissions.
Getrag signed the joint venture with Dongfeng 366 days before the ground-breaking ceremony.
