Mercedes-Benz unveils its revamped G-Class

The all-new G-Class makes its public debut at the Detroit auto show in G550 form. Completely redeveloped and fitted with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo gasoline engine offering 427ps and 450 lb-ft of torque at 2,000rpm to 4,750rpm, despite near-identical looks to its predecessor plenty has changed for the Mercedes-Benz SUV.

Developed by the powertrain team behind the 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine for super duty trucks, the all-new 3.0-liter V6 Power Stroke unit promises 250ps, 440 lb-ft of torque, and an anticipated 5175kg of towing capacity.

Getrag and Dongfeng establish transmissions partnership

China's second largest automotive manufacturer, Dongfeng, has joined forces with Getrag to develop and produce state-of-the-art transmission systems for the OEMs passenger car and light commercial vehicle products.

Both partners will hold an equal 50/50 stake in the new company, called Dongfeng Getrag Transmission, which will benefit from a new transmission engineering and production facility in China that’s expected to start production in late 2015.

Discussing the partnership, Mihir Kotecha, CEO of Getrag, said: "We are happy and proud to establish a strategic alliance with Dongfeng. It further strengthens our business in Asia and creates exciting new possibilities for the future. In addition, our successful Asian business will generate synergies, know-how and economies of scale, also improving the competitiveness of our European operations. The establishment of Dongfeng Getrag Transmission is another important step on our way towards a truly global company.”

Xu Ping, chairman of Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Dongfeng Motor Group, added: “This joint venture cooperation of Dongfeng and Getrag is an important action for Dongfeng to pool our global resources, to speed up the own-brand powertrain platform and further enhance our first-class independent innovation ability. The cooperation between Dongfeng and Getrag is a future-oriented and win-win strategic partnership. This partnership will surely provide an important drive and support to Dongfeng’s own-brand business.”

The first product from Dongfeng Getrag Transmission will be a new six-speed dual clutch transmission, named 6DCT150, for the Chinese market.
