Four million and not out for MultiJet

The four millionth 1.3-liter 16v MultiJet engine has rolled out of the Fiat Powertrain plant in Bielsko Biala, Poland.

Production of the small diesel began in 2003, and Fiat says this landmark achievement is further evidence of how good the unit is. An evolution of the common rail technology that Fiat pioneered in 1997, the 1.3-liter was the first application of MultiJet technology. In 2005 it scooped the 1-liter to 1.4-liter accolade at the International Engine of the Year Awards.

The engine is available with several power levels, varying from 75bhp with fixed geometry turbocharger, to 85bhp and even 95bhp with variable geometry turbocharger. In all versions, the MultiJet ensures high performance levels and low fuel consumption levels as well long service intervals: oil change every 35,000kms and service every 250,000kms.

The MultiJet is fitted on a large number of cars from the Fiat Group Automobiles range, starting from the Panda and 500 to models in the Punto family, the Lancia Ypsilon and the Alfa Romeo MiTo under the branding of JTDm.
