FAI opens new HQ

Eighteen months after the company faced the aftermath of a blaze that threatened its entire business, FAI Automotive has opened its new headquarters on the site of the original building, at its facility in Leighton Buzzard, UK.
FAI’s original HQ building was severely damaged during a fire in January 2008, but a second building on the same facility was repairable and was made functional by FAI within days of the fire having taken place. The UK-based supplier says that through the efforts of suppliers, staff and customers, as well as with great help and support from its insurance company, FAI missed no trading and was quickly able to find two units close by to replace the destroyed building.
"Local people know the scale of the fire and it a great credit to all involved that FAI not only managed to weather the crisis but has actually gone from strength to strength in the last eighteen months - especially when set against the backdrop of this potential disaster and the economic climate as a whole," enthused FAI Automotive MD, Sean Walker.
FAI has expanded its own product lines with the introduction of a new range of coil springs, and the growth of its steering & suspension and gasket ranges. It has also enlarged its ranges of Goodyear belts and Lucas diesel glow plugs and has launched the Calorstat range of thermostats from global market leaders in the sector, Vernet.
The company has also significantly grown its exports of products and now services clients in more than 50 countries worldwide.
All this has contributed to FAI recruiting new staff to increase the total number of employees in the company by more than 10% and it has a projected turnover in excess of $18 million for this year.
"The automotive industry has been going through a rough time recently, like much of the rest of the UK economy, so it is excellent to be able to report that we are bucking the trend in the current economic climate," continued Walker. "I can honestly say that FAI has never been busier and we plan to broaden our product portfolio further still.
"The fire also proved to be positive in some respects, as it has allowed us to re-organize our systems internally, to streamline operations in the warehouse and ultimately make better, more efficient use of the space we have. Despite the opening of the new warehouse-headquarters building, we will continue to occupy the additional units that we originally took out as a stop-gap measure, as we already need the extra capacity they now offers us.”
