New platforms for Dongfeng plant

Right: Dongfeng says the new platforms will allow the plant to increase annual capacity from 360,000 units to 600,000, with the total investment being US$730 million

Dongfeng Motor Company, Nissan’s local development partner in China, has announced the expansion of the Huadu passenger vehicle and engine facility in Guangzhou City. The manufacturing plant will be equipped with new production lines in 2012 after the Chinese OEM acquired land located near the existing facility. Dongfeng says the new platforms will allow the plant to increase annual capacity from 360,000 units to 600,000, with the total investment being US$730 million. Commenting on the expansion, Kimiyasau Nakamura, Dongfeng president, said: “The new production lines will help us meet the three objectives of our mid-term business plan. With this expansion, we will reach a sufficient capacity to achieve our sales target by 2012 with the aim to produce first-class, quality products at the appropriate delivery timing and to accelerate clean production by reducing CO2, SO2 and chemical oxygen demand.”
